This is happening now. It may be just as dangerous as www.creedthoughts.gov(…) but here we are. I’m not running this through ai which is probably not smart just know that this little blurb is actually me typing. Golf is fun to talk about in any capacity, but I’d like to use this forum to highlight some things I think should be discussed more or maybe don’t have enough light on them. This week I would like to encourage you to do some research regarding the proposed golf ball rollback of 2026.. they might have moved it again, but last I checked it’s scheduled for 2026. Here’s a quote from an article on GOLF.com:
“Under the revised ball testing conditions, equipment manufacturers will have new offerings tested at 125 mph clubhead speed (equivalent to 183 mph ball speed) with a spin rate of 2200 RPMs and launch angle of 11 degrees. The current conditions, implemented 20 years ago, are set at 120 mph (176 mph ball speed), 2520 RPMs with a launch angle of 10 degrees.
Using the revised ball testing conditions, the USGA confirmed golfers at 183 mph ball speed and above should expect to see as much as 13-15 yards in driver distance loss, with the average pro and elite male golfer coming in at a reduction of 9-11 yards. As for LPGA and LET players, Pagel said the reduction would be around 5-7 yards with the driver.”
I would think this would be getting more attention, but they announced it and then disappeared from the conversation. This would mean an across the board sweeping change to manufacturing processes for every golf ball made after those changes. Seems like if you’re still trying to grow the game you could leave the semi-pro and amateur golfers that make up 97% of your sales out of this by offering a tour issue ball only to tour players. Better yet, if each player’s driver head had to be to a certain spec then they could leave the rest of the world out this all together. It won’t affect the everyday player by more than a few yards, but for those grinding over every yard off the tee, seems unnecessary. Let’s all hope cooler heads prevail and we finally get that 600cc driver we’ve all been waiting for! Just kidding, but it would be fun. See you next week :)
