A Bit of a Funk in Pro Golf Right Now
by someone who's still trying to care

PGA or LIV — whatever camp you're in, it's hard to deny there’s just some weird stuff going on in professional golf right now. And not the fun kind of weird. The product, as it stands, feels… off. The energy isn’t there. The storylines aren’t really hitting. Even when someone finally breaks through, like Cam Young grabbing a long-awaited win, it somehow doesn’t land with the weight it probably should.

I want to care. Really. But lately, I find myself watching out of habit more than interest.

The broadcasts don’t help much either. Between the commercial load, the scattered coverage, and what feels like a general lack of rhythm in the presentation, it’s tough to stay engaged. And then there's the DP World Tour, which seems to have more of the stuff I actually want to watch — but unless you’re setting an alarm for 3am, you’re probably missing it too.

It’s just a strange time to be a fan of golf.

There’s still plenty of talent out there. The fields are stacked. The skill is undeniable. But something about the atmosphere, the way it’s all coming together on screen (or not coming together), leaves a lot to be desired. It feels like the soul of the game — at least the televised version of it — is somewhere else right now.

Hopefully, the playoffs inject some life back into things. Maybe a few good duels or a surprising underdog run will change the mood. Golf tends to find a way to pull us back in when we least expect it. At least I’m hoping that’s the case.

Because I don’t want to be checked out. I really don’t.
